Sustainable water re-use in the agro-food sector
Info utili
The Sustainable Water Re-use in the Agro-food Sector course is organized by the Department of Environmental, Land and Infrastructure Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Turin.
The course is part of the NODES project in line with the objectives of Spoke 7, aimed at innovating the agri-food system and promoting knowledge and innovative training in the field of sustainability of food production through the application of circular economy principles, with particular reference to the reuse of wastewater in the secondary agro-industry, thus contributing to the growth of the skills of operators in the sector and the creation of new and innovative entrepreneurship.
Objectives
The course aims to deepen the sustainable practices of reuse of wastewater produced by the secondary agro-industry, analyzing the Italian regulations relating to this process. The following will be presented:
- the different types of agri-food waste waters
- the main contaminants potentially present and the processes that originate
- the chemical, chemical-physical and biological characteristics of these waters
- their typical parameters.
Particular attention will be paid to the request for specific quality parameters for the reuse of water, also in the irrigation sector, and to the various waste water treatment systems that allow the standards required for their reuse to be achieved. Finally, students will be introduced to the concept of controlled groundwater recharge.
Program and teachers
- Introduction to the prospects of reuse of wastewater produced in the secondary agro-industry, with particular reference to possible reuse in the agro-industrial and agricultural sectors
- Criteria and regulatory aspects for water reuse
- Wastewater produced by agro-industrial processes: types, characteristics and main parameters
- Quality parameters and treatment systems for water reuse
- Controlled groundwater recharge through infiltration into the aquifer of treated or partially treated wastewater from the secondary agro-industry
The lessons will be held by Dr. Carlo Bianco and Prof. Tiziana Tosco, experts in the field of environmental health engineering with specific skills in the field of characterization and sustainable recovery of water resources.
Who is it for
The course is aimed at professionals in the agri-food sector, environmental engineers, agronomists, and all those interested in understanding and implementing sustainable solutions in the context of water reuse.
