The series of seminars, "Measuring the role of destination marketing in the tourism and cultural industries," was created with the aim of exploring, from an interdisciplinary perspective, the role of destination marketing in the development of the tourism and cultural industries. The initiative integrates statistical approaches and marketing analysis tools, offering a path that combines scientific rigor and practical applications to support the strategic decisions of local stakeholders. The discussion focuses not only on measuring the impact of communication and promotion strategies, but also on identifying indicators and forecasting models capable of guiding governance choices, sustainable management, and the valorization of local resources.   The seminars aim to create a space for discussion and knowledge transfer between academia, institutions, and operators, stimulating new synergies and providing innovative tools to address the challenges of contemporary tourism.   Detailed Program November 13, 5:15 PM - 8:00 PM Jordy Bollon Asking the Right Questions: Survey Design and Analysis in Tourism Asking the Right Questions: Questionnaire Design and Analysis in Tourism The seminar "Asking the Right Questions: Survey Design and Analysis in Tourism" focuses on the fundamentals of questionnaire design and analysis techniques, including the relationships between variables in the tourism sector. The principles of good survey instrument construction will be explored, from identifying objectives to formulating questions, and data collection and management. Basic methods for descriptively exploring data, associations, and correlations will then be introduced, demonstrating how collected data can reveal connections between visitor satisfaction, destination characteristics, services offered, and consumer behavior. Through practical examples and applications to tourism and culture, participants will understand how to transform simple answers into useful knowledge to improve the tourism experience and support strategic decisions.   November 24, 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM Gulbin Durmaz, Strategic Marketing: Principles and Measurements Strategic Marketing: Principles and Measurements The seminar "Strategic Marketing: Principles and Measurements" offers an introduction to the fundamental principles of strategic marketing, with a focus on useful tools for understanding, planning, and evaluating market strategies. Topics such as segmentation and positioning, customer value analysis, building competitive advantage, and measuring marketing performance will be addressed. Through practical examples and applications to the tourism and culture sectors, we will discuss how to translate data and indicators into effective strategic choices capable of guiding organizations toward sustainable and results-oriented growth.   December 4th from 5:15 PM to 8:00 PM Jordy Bollon Customer Satisfaction: Principles and Measurements Customer Satisfaction: Principles and Measurements The seminar "Customer Satisfaction: Principles and Measurements" addresses the key concepts related to customer satisfaction as a strategic lever for organizational competitiveness. The fundamental principles that define customer satisfaction, the factors that influence it, and the ways in which it can be observed and interpreted will be introduced. Particular attention will be paid to measurement tools—from traditional questionnaires to digital surveys to online review analysis—and useful indicators for transforming feedback into improvement actions. Through case studies, especially in the tourism and cultural sectors, we will demonstrate how assessing visitor satisfaction can serve as a compass for guiding service strategies, strengthening loyalty, and generating shared value.   You can participate in the online seminars by scanning the QR code on the poster. GREEN ATTRACTION: Gardens as a stage for contemporary tourism
On Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 9:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the study day "Green Attraction – Gardens as a Stage for Contemporary Tourism" will be held in Verbania at VILLA GIULIA, organized by the University of Eastern Piedmont (DISSTE Department) in collaboration with numerous partners. Garden tourism is becoming increasingly structured and attractive, capable of generating value for local communities and meeting the needs of a diverse audience: from landscape lovers to botany enthusiasts, from cultural travelers to those seeking regenerative and wellness experiences. Gardens are also tools for urban regeneration, environmental education, and tourism innovation. In an era in which the quality of the environment and leisure activities is becoming increasingly important, they are becoming outstanding "green attractions" capable of generating networks, projects, and strategies at both a local and international scale.   These themes will be explored in depth throughout the day in order to foster a dialogue between Italian and international experiences. The event is divided into two sessions: a morning session with institutional presentations and presentations by industry experts, and an afternoon session dedicated to short talks and discussion.   The focus will be on topics such as the role of large gardens in tourism promotion, international networks, research projects, and successful experiences.   SHORT-TALKS - Deadline September 22, 2025 Five to six slots of approximately 20 minutes each are available, including a section dedicated to illustrating the issue and a section for discussion with the speakers and attendees.   To apply to speak, simply send your title and abstract (maximum 600 characters) by email to turismo@villataranto.it by September 22, 2025, summarizing the topics, research, or issues you wish to present and discuss. Fashion Tuesdays 2025
Given the resounding success of last year's edition, the University of Insubria, the leader of Spoke 3, has organized the second series of three conferences, titled "Fashion Tuesdays 2025," in collaboration with the Como Silk Museum. The events, which will be held at the Como Silk Museum, Via Castelnuovo 9, will focus on three women active in the fashion world who bring messages of female emancipation. The first meeting will be held on September 30, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM and will be dedicated to Luisa Spagnoli, "The Genius of an Entrepreneur."   Luisa Spagnoli began her entrepreneurial career in 1907 when, together with Francesco Buitoni and Leone Ascoli, she opened a small confectionery company in Perugia called Perugina. She joined the board of directors in 1922 and immediately proved to be a visionary woman, attentive to the well-being of her employees. Over the years, she distinguished herself by implementing social projects aimed at improving the living conditions of workers, such as the construction of a nursery in the Fontivegge factory.   Her adventure in the fashion world began at the end of World War I, when she decided to dedicate herself to raising poultry and Angora rabbits. Spagnoli proved extremely sensitive and attentive to the animals' welfare; she chose not to inflict any kind of torture on the rabbits, which were not killed or sheared, but rather combed to obtain the angora wool needed for yarn. From this insight, the Angora Spagnoli company was founded in Santa Lucia (PG), which would go on to create stunning creations including shawls, boleros, and fashionable garments. A company that stands the test of time and has become a leading name in the fashion industry thanks to the innovative ideas and entrepreneurial spirit that Luisa Spagnoli demonstrated at a time when women struggled daily for emancipation.   Subscribe here   The second event will be held on Tuesday, October 14th from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM and will be dedicated to Cora Slocomb di Brazzà: "an American in Friuli."   Cora Slocomb was born in New Orleans in 1862. From a wealthy family, she acquired the title of countess in 1887 through her marriage to Detalmo Savorgnan di Brazzà. After her marriage to the count, she arrived in Friuli, where she found a land wracked by poverty and misery. She decided to make her talent available to the local population, especially women. She aimed to provide women with tools for emancipation and independence through work, thanks to the innovative projects of the Cooperative Lace Schools. She taught the art of bobbin lacemaking to Friulian peasant women, providing them with refined models of what she called "design applied to industry"—our industrial design.   In addition to the lace schools, Cora Slocomb di Brazzà undertook other projects: the creation of toys using Nuremberg porcelain; the marketing of Brazzà violets, cultivated by her brother-in-law Filippo, which reached the markets of Alexandria, St. Petersburg, and New York; and the promotion of the Delser biscuit factory. The establishment of the Agricultural Emulation Fairs was particularly important. Recognition of Cora Slocomb's entrepreneurial skills was formalized with her appointment as President of the Italian Women's Industries.   Subscribe here   The third event will be held on Tuesday, November 18th from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM and will be dedicated to Emmy Schoch.   Hermine Emilie Schoch-Leimbach, known as Emmy Schoch, was born in Lichtenau, Germany, in 1881. She was a German fashion designer and entrepreneur. She designed artistic reform dresses and promoted them through lectures and exhibitions. She was actively involved in the Association for the Improvement of Women's Dress.   In 1903, she abandoned her piano studies after an illness and began an apprenticeship as a craftswoman in Pauline Winker's studio in Berlin.   From an early age, she stood out for her innovative ideas, which helped change the German fashion landscape. While still an apprentice, she designed dresses and exhibited them in Berlin. In 1906, Schoch rented space in Karlsruhe and opened a workshop for new women's costumes and artistic embroidery. The magazine "Frauenkleid und Frauenkultur" (Women's Clothing and Women's Culture) of the Association for the Improvement of Women's Clothing presented the Schoch company in 1911 using dress patterns. Schoch contributed to the magazine for 25 years. Photos and patterns of her dress designs were printed. For the association, she undertook speaking tours in the Rhineland, the Ruhr area, northern Germany, and Saxony. At these events, she spoke about the health and hygiene benefits of reformed clothing and even demonstrated it. For Emmy Schoch, the aesthetic demands of clothing were as important as the demand for comfort. She saw the qualities of German craftsmanship as a counterweight to French fashion.   Subscribe here
