The OLIOP project aims to act as an incubator for the new olive-growing sector in Oltrepò Pavese, a region historically known for its high-quality viticulture, where cultivation levels are progressively rising due to the effects of climate change. The project seeks to establish a precise production protocol for low-altitude olive farming, which includes the digitalisation of olive-growing areas, the design of pilot plantations in different microclimates, and the development of advanced monitoring systems capable of providing predictive models and decision-making support.

The challenge
Document

Creating an alternative production chain to viticulture, capable of increasing the profitability of farms in Oltrepò Pavese, in response to the negative effects caused by climate change.

Why is it innovative
Document

The project’s objectives aim to establish the first olive oil production protocol in Oltrepò Pavese. Part of the project involves the implementation of pilot plantations in different microclimates, which, through advanced monitoring systems (agro-meteorological stations and field sensors), will collect relevant data to create a database accessible via a mobile/desktop application. This will provide predictive models and decision-making support for olive growers and producers.

Impact on the users
Document

A new frontier olive-growing production chain in Oltrepò Pavese will have the potential to make a considerable impact on the region. The project will generate open data accessible to businesses and farmers, aimed at boosting the local rural economy while also encouraging the use of digital technologies to support a more sustainable and climate-resilient production.
