The project aims to assist producers in meticulously monitoring their vineyards during the growing season, providing valuable data for targeted field operations, such as variable rate fertilisation and cluster thinning, aimed at achieving high-quality standards. This is made possible by Cartographer, an innovative proximal sensing system developed by Green Atlas, a spin-off from the University of Sydney. The requested service will enable the development of a specific operational protocol for the enological objectives of the most representative grape varieties in the Terre d’Oltrepò region using Cartographer technology.

The measurements allow for the planning of variable-rate fertilisation, which in turn ensures greater environmental sustainability, enhanced operational efficiency, cost savings, and improved quality of production. The cooperative, for its part, will benefit from the advantages derived from estimating production, thanks to the ability to enter into sales contracts that align with the available production and to adequately organise the grape collection operations.
After years of experimentation and rigorous field tests, the Cartographer system now represents one of the most advanced tools for proximal sensing, capable of ensuring a level of precision superior to other systems, such as satellite measurements, with which it is also perfectly integrable.
Based on the measurements and monitoring, the agricultural company can optimise part of its production costs and improve product quality by intervening in a targeted manner on the vegetative-productive balance, with the aim of enhancing quality in line with the enological objectives requested by the cooperative. Estimating production is a key element that can increase the competitiveness of both the individual agricultural company and the cooperative, providing the opportunity to better organise the harvest and enter into optimised contracts with customers.
