The poster of a transversal study by UNISG and UNIPV was awarded

Special mention to the poster “Nutrition labeling and analysis of consumer perception of food products”
Nutrition labeling and analysis of consumer perception of food products is the title of the work that earned Federica Quintiero (University of Pavia ), Spoke 7 Research Technologist, a Special Mention as Best Scientific Contribution Award at the National Congress ASAND (Scientific Association of Food, Nutrition and Dietetics, Naples, 14-16 March 2024).
The poster is the result of research born from the collaboration of Cinzia Ferraris and Federica Quintiero(University of Pavia) with Luisa Torri and Nazarena Cela (University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo).
“This project was born from the idea of investigating consumers' attitudes towards nutrition labels and how they influence food choices”, explains Dr. Quintiero. “The data were collected via an online questionnaire, administered between November 2023 and March 2024, with questions relating to personality traits, eating habits socio-demographic characteristics, adherence to the Mediterranean diet and other factors that influence the understanding of the information reported on the label".
The main objective of the cross-sectional study is to identify whether there are differences between the two types of most widespread nutritional labels:
- Front of Pack Nutri-Score e
- NutrInform battery
in communicating the nutritional quality of food products.
The survey was carried out on the labels of 6 types of food products (low-fat and plain yogurt; stracciatella; apricot, blueberry and plum jams) and each participant assigned a value on a Likert scale from 1 to 7, on how affordable, healthy and nutritious the product was.
The preliminary descriptive results show that the two types of labels analyzed work in a equal way with respect to the three parameters considered (purchasable, healthy and nutritious).
