The project responds to the growing attention to environmental protection, proposing alternatives to plastic packaging without compromising food safety standards. The approach is based on the principles of the circular economy to increase the environmental, economic and social sustainability of food systems. It aims to improve the safety, quality and healthiness of food production, preserving the sensorial and environmental aspects. This will be achieved through the use of natural materials, preferably of organic origin, and the development of innovative, healthy, protein and energizing formulations using local raw materials from organic farming. Furthermore, the by-products of food processing will be valorized in a circular economy perspective.
The aim is to improve food production, distribution and consumption through the implementation of intelligent systems and the connection between actors in the supply chain, reducing waste, improving logistics and ensuring a sustainable and high-quality supply of food.

The challenge

The project aims to respond to the growing attention of institutions and consumers towards environmental protection, promoting the study and research of alternative solutions to the plastic packaging currently used, without compromising the high standards of conservation and food safety. The approach adopted aims to increase the environmental, economic and social sustainability of food systems, applying the principles of the circular economy. In particular, the use of compostable packaging represents an example of an organic circular economy.

The main innovation of the project is the development of intelligent and interconnected systems for the control and optimization of the overall efficiency of the food supply chain, through the application of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The entire process of producing, distributing and consuming food efficiently will be improved by implementing intelligent systems that use AI to make informed decisions and connecting different actors in the supply chain via IoT. This will optimize operations, reduce waste, improve logistics and ensure a sustainable and high-quality supply of food.
