NODES at Open Factories Piemonte: discovering the places of production and innovation
From Thursday, October 24 to Saturday, October 26, 2024, the fifth edition of "Fabbriche Aperte Piemonte" (Open Factories of Piedmont) will take place. This initiative, organized by the Piedmont Region, offers the opportunity to visit industrial production sites in the Piedmont area for free.
More than 130 plants will open their doors, allowing the public to discover the value hidden inside factories, plants, and laboratories that represent the region's economic and technological excellence.
The NODES (Northwest Digital and Sustainable) Innovation Ecosystem will participate in the event through some of its key project partners.
BIOINDUSTRY PARK SILVANO FUMERO
Bioindustry Park is the managing entity of bioPmed, the Piedmontese Innovation Cluster dedicated to health and life sciences: a network of excellence that promotes the growth and global competitiveness of local businesses. It is a partner of the NODES Ecosystem and Spoke 5 - Health Industry and Silver Economy. Bioindustry Park provides an ideal environment for companies located there to develop innovation and production, supported by a network of institutions, universities, and investors.
During the "Fabbriche Aperte Piemonte" event, visitors will have the opportunity to discover the activities of some of the companies based in the Park in Samone (To). These include: Merck, the world's oldest chemical-pharmaceutical company; AorticLab, focused on innovating aortic valves and implementing new technologies in cardiology; and the laboratory of the ITS Biotechnologies and New Life Sciences higher education school, which trains young specialized technicians to transform scientific discoveries into commercial products.
ENVIRONMENT PARK
A Science and Technology Park active for over 20 years, Environment Park focuses on environmental and sustainability-related topics. Its vision is to develop and promote environmental sustainability as a driver of competitiveness. Its activities are divided into two areas: managing the technology park and providing innovation services for businesses and public administration.
Environment Park is involved in the NODES Ecosystem on the topics of Aerospace and Sustainable Mobility (Spoke 1) and Green Technologies and Sustainable Industry (Spoke 2). During the "Fabbriche Aperte" event, visitors will have the opportunity to tour the park's facilities and laboratories in Turin, with an introduction to the original project and its main activities.
Additionally, some of the companies involved in projects funded through the NODES Ecosystem's Cascade Calls will be present at the Fabbriche Aperte event.
A.D.A. Srl
An innovative pharmaceutical startup, leading the REMEDIO project, develops new inhalation therapies based on nanotechnology. Visitors can tour the pharmaceutical technology laboratory in Turin, where the company's Research & Development phases take place.

Among the leaders in the production of automated handling systems for automated warehouses, the company is a promoter of the PEARL project. The tour at the headquarters in Roletto (TO) will cover all phases of production and testing of the automated handling solutions.

A company of the Iren Group, active in the production of electricity and the production/distribution of thermal energy for district heating and technological services. The plant that will be open for visits is The Heat Garden, the new heat storage system located in the San Salvario neighborhood. Its central location in Turin combines innovative aspects with a unique architectural project that integrates sustainability and local considerations with cutting-edge technological solutions. SMAT SpA
SMAT ensures integrated water service for 2.2 million residents across 292 municipalities in the Turin Metropolitan Area. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore Italy's largest wastewater treatment plant in Castiglione Torinese and the first modern-era city aqueduct in Villarbasse, both located in the province of Turin. SMAT is also a partner in the BIOENPRO H2O project.

An Italian family-owned group and a leader in the international end-of-line market, the company based in Santo Stefano Belbo (Cn) heads the BDS-TOS and CAI LUN projects. During the visit, the company's history will be presented, with a focus on research and development. Visitors will explore the production department, discovering the manufacturing process, and watch a demonstration of the machinery in operation.
