Fourth edition of the International School on Water Reuse kicks off: three days of international training and exchange
International School on Water Reuse – 4th Edition
From September 15 to 17, 2025, the University of Turin will host the fourth edition of the International School on Water Reuse (ISWR). This international training program dedicated to the theme of water reuse is organized in collaboration with Butterfly Area.
The water crisis and increasing resource scarcity demand a multidisciplinary approach that integrates scientific, technological, economic, and social expertise. The goal of the school is to provide participants with a full overview of the challenges and opportunities tied to wastewater reuse, featuring contributions from experts and professors from international universities and research institutions.
A Rich and Interactive Program
The three-day course alternates between traditional lectures, roundtables, poster sessions, and practical activities, focusing on:
- Climate change and water scarcity;
- Wastewater quality and treatment;
- Technological innovations for reuse;
- Regulatory and economic aspects;
- International case studies and applications in agriculture, industry, and urban environments.
The school concludes with a technical visit to the SMAT plant in Collegno, a concrete example of industrial wastewater reuse.
The Collaboration with Butterfly Area
Butterfly Area is a strategic project of the University of Turin, located within the innovative "City of Sciences and Environment" Campus in Grugliasco, in the Turin metropolitan area. It is an emerging ecosystem where companies, research bodies, and institutions can collaborate closely with researchers and students, create shared laboratories, utilize experimental plants, and access university research equipment.
