Spoke 2 meets the delegation of researchers from the German regional agency AGIT for a discussion on the bio-economy and biotechnology for green tech!

An unmissable internationalisation opportunity for Spoke 2 and the NODES Ecosystem

On 30 and 31 October, a delegation of 9 people from the following research centres Centro di Ricerca di Jülich, Aachen Technical University, Competence Center Bio4MatPro, Technical University of Hamburg, Institute for Technology and Innovation Management visiting thanks to the German Regional Agency AGIT visited Turin as part of the NODES ecosystem, at the premises of the Department of Biotechnology of the University of Turin.

Thursday opened with institutional greetings and a presentation of the University of Turin's research ecosystem by the Vice-Rector for Research Cristina Prandi.


The floor was then passed to Tiziana Dell'Olmo, representative of the Piedmont Region, who presented a speech entitled: ‘Piedmont Region: strategies for technology transfer and innovation in the Bioeconomy field’.

Word to the guests!

The German delegation had a dedicated moment where they could present their flagship projects of their Competence Center Bio4MatPro/BioeconomyREVIER and the Innovation cluster and Bioeconomy-VVU.

 

Innovation and biotechnologies

Following this, the president of the 2i3T incubator, Fiorella Artruda, led a tour of the incubator and UniTO's Biotechnology faculty and, once back in the classroom, it was Enzo Terreno, Director of UniTO Biotechnology Department, who presented the University's commitment and projects on Biotechnology within the Department.

 

Similarly, Giuseppe Serrao, director of 2i3T illustrated the incubator's commitment to supporting and accompanying successful start-up projects within the University, with a focus on the projects followed in the field of biotechnology!

 

To continue in the innovation vein, it was the turn of Cristina Caffarra Malvezzi, from the RASgenix start-up team, who presented her start-up project, which won different prizes during the year 2023 and 2024.

An afternoon at the Botanical Garden of the University of Turin

The afternoon's programme opened with a visit to UniTo Botanical Garden, where Giovanna Cristina Varese, Full Professor at the Department of Life Sciences and Systems Biology, introduced guests to the Botanical Garden and the projects that are carried out within the Department's laboratories, with a visit to the laboratories to discover the crops in which UniTO innovation takes shape!

A closing in the Turin innovation hub and NODES partner

Thursday's visit then ended at the OGR Tech, where the delegation was able to discover Turin's innovation hub and the projects it supports and monitors, thanks to a talk by Matteo Pessione.

 

Friday 31 visit to Environment Park Torino

Unmissable for our guests was a visit to Envipark, also a partner in the NODES ecosystem! This time it was Silvia Fraterrigo Garofalo who welcomed the delegation and during this visit, the delegation was able to visit the Technology Park's laboratories, with Paola Zitella, and discover the biotechnology activities of IIT (Italian Institute of Technology) and the Polytechnic of Turin, presented to them by Annalisa Abdel Azim and Valeria Agostino.

The visit concluded with a talk by Mario Bonaccorso, from the cluster Spring, entitled ‘Building the future with Nature: the Circular Bioeconomy as main Pillar of the Green Deal’.

It was an exciting experience to be able to bring all the biotech and green tech players together in Turin on this very pleasant visit, with the hope of establishing fruitful and lasting partnerships, together towards a more sustainable future.
