Ski lovers will be able to use an experimental and interactive "fun slope" in which they will be the participants of a game that has the ski slope as its competition field. The course will include tests of skill, dexterity, precision, speed and style. Each skier will be identifiable thanks to an adhesive mark and will be followed by a network of cameras placed along the entire route. The cameras will exploit a system that uses artificial intelligence, which will assign, in real time, a score to the various tests taken. The route will initially cover a single section of the "fun slope" and in the final phase of the project it will be extended for the entire length (approximately 1800 m.). The experimental "fun slope" will optimize the use of the slopes and increase travel times, allowing savings in land, water and electricity.

The challenge
Document

Monterosa SpA wants to offer a new experience through a digital avatar. Starting from this technological base, it will be possible to develop new applications that allow even greater involvement of the skier. KRIA will allow the identification and segmentation of skiers thanks to the 3D measurement of their position. The project makes use of the collaboration of UNIVDA, which will use artificial intelligence (AI) models to evaluate ability in carrying out the tests.

Because it is innovative

Some winter tourism trends in mountain areas will be anticipated, because tourists are looking for alternative ways of entertainment to simple skiing, and the use of "fun slopes" can be a way to save land, water and energy. Part of the project will in fact evaluate how to optimize the route to increase the skier's ability and permanence, in order to reduce the impact of skiing on the environment. At the moment there are no systems that allow us to track different skiers who complete a certain number of tests and who present substantial differences between them.

Impact on those who use it
Document

With the camera system, tracking costs are reduced as the camera can identify a skier with an adhesive mark (a few euro cents per person) while with proximity sensors it is necessary to equip oneself with a tracking device (from 40 euros per person). person). The interactive "fun slope" is certainly a tool to attract children and teenagers and make them loyal to skiing, but the underlying technology and the experience gained can be used to create new ways of enjoying the snow.
