Intellectual Property Strategies: The Value of Ideas in the Secondary Agroindustry
In a production environment increasingly driven by innovation, technology, and data, intellectual property (IP) represents a strategic asset for business growth and the valorization of research results. This course is designed to transfer concrete knowledge and operational tools to businesses, startups, researchers, and professionals in the agro-industrial sector, fostering the ability to protect, manage, and enhance innovation in a competitive and sustainable manner.
Through four training modules, the course will offer a comprehensive and applied overview of the main tools for protecting industrial and intellectual property—from patents to trademarks, from design to the protection of plant varieties, up to strategies for the economic valorization of intangible assets and the protection of trade secrets. Each module includes real case studies and practical simulations, with an approach focused on the reality of the secondary agro-industry.

Course Structure
Module 1 – Trademarks and Copyright: Identity, Creativity, and Digital Protection
(November 12, 2025 – 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM)
The second module explores the protection of corporate identity and creativity through the analysis of trademarks and copyright. The different types of trademarks (word, figurative, shape, sound, multimedia, holographic) and the procedures for their registration and defense will be illustrated, including administrative and judicial actions and cases of online infringement. The section dedicated to copyright will clarify the legal, moral, and patrimonial aspects of protecting creative works and digital content, with practical examples of common situations in the agro-industrial sector (labels, packaging, multimedia content, software).
Module 2 – Design, Models: Aesthetics, Innovation, and Biodiversity
(November 19, 2025 – 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM)
The third module examines the role of design and industrial models as tools for enhancing the aesthetics and functionality of agro-industrial products. The protection requirements, the differences between registered and unregistered designs, and registration procedures at the national and international levels will be explored. This is followed by a focus on plant varieties, a central theme for research and development in the agri-food sector: protection requirements, UPOV and EU regulations, naming procedures, and the relationship between patents and plant varieties will be illustrated. Each section will be accompanied by case studies and analysis of application examples in the context of agricultural and agro-industrial innovation.
Module 3 – Patents and Utility Models: From Idea to Invention Protection
(November 26, 2025 – 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM)
The first session introduces the fundamentals of industrial property rights applied to technological innovation. The concepts of invention and utility model, patentability requirements, the structure and interpretation of a patent file, as well as filing and administrative procedures (national, European, and international) will be explored. Ample space will be dedicated to patent search strategies, defense against counterfeiting, and ways to exploit patents economically, including as a lever for attracting investors and partnerships. Finally, a specific focus will be given to the impact of Artificial Intelligence on patenting and the new scenarios of IP 4.0.
Module 4 – Valorization and Management of Intangible Assets: From Know-How to Competitive Advantage
(December 3, 2025 – 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM)
The fourth module focuses on economic valorization strategies and the integrated management of intellectual property assets. Participants will learn to identify, classify, and evaluate intangible assets (patents, trademarks, designs, know-how), understanding their impact on company performance and the ability to attract investment. Economic exploitation models, accounting and financial evaluation methods, and best management practices will be illustrated. The session concludes with an in-depth look at the protection of trade secrets and know-how, an essential component for safeguarding corporate innovation, with practical examples of management and security measures at the organizational and technological levels.
