SSSMP
The Smart Social Sustainable Mobility Platform was created to ensure road safety and a faster response to road accidents. Through technologically advanced systems, it is able to transform the optical fibres already present under the road surface into real accident detectors and, at the same time, integrate and monitor road cameras, sensors and charging stations.

Scheda del progetto
The SSSMP project intends to develop an integrated digital platform with the aim of
1. Reducing the number of victims of road accidents by speeding up the detection and reporting of accidents;
2. Take advantage of the large amount of underground optical fibres (already laid and still unused) to turn them into active accident detection sensors.
3. Integrate data networks and road technologies such as charging stations, traffic lights, road cameras and speed cameras into the platform to provide a single point of monitoring and self-diagnosis of the entire ecosystem.

Provide municipalities or bodies that manage urban, suburban roads and motorways with a tool for monitoring accidents on roads that is currently unavailable.
At present, there are no systems to monitor accidents on urban and suburban roads in real time. In the case of accidents occurring outside urban centres, as there is no warning tool, accidents are often reported by other motorists when they pass by the scene of the accident. It can be deduced from this that this situation leads, in particular in areas with little traffic or at times of low traffic intensity, to delays in alerting the emergency services and, consequently, in intervening in situations in which every second can save a life: it should be noted in this connection that, according to ISTAT, in 95 % of urban and extra-urban accidents the window of time for administering life-saving treatment is exhausted before the accident is even reported.
The Smart Social Sustainable Mobility Platform aims to have a significant and positively relevant impact on the management of safety, accident and road technology infrastructures that are often neglected, especially in small towns and cities.
The impact will be manifested in several ways:
● Increased road safety: thanks to the platform's ability to detect road accidents quickly and accurately, users benefit from a reduction in the risk of accidents and more timely intervention by the relevant authorities. This will lead to a decrease in fatalities and damage caused by road accidents, improving safety on the roads overall.
● Efficiency in infrastructure utilisation: by exploiting underground optical fibres that are already installed but not used, the platform will allow them to be transformed into active accident detection sensors. Furthermore, by detecting impacts against fixed parts of the road, such as posts and guardrails, even minor accidents that are not usually reported, it will be possible to better plan the maintenance of these safety installations. This will maximise the effectiveness of existing infrastructure, while reducing the need for additional investment in new infrastructure.
● Centralisation of information: by integrating data networks and road technologies within the platform, the SSSMP will offer users a single point of monitoring and self-diagnosis of the entire urban mobility ecosystem. This will simplify the management and maintenance of road infrastructure, improving the overall efficiency of the system.
The consequences of this impact will have a positive effect on the quality of life and road safety in the communities where the system will be implemented.
