NODES Spring Roadshow: sustainable and innovative textiles in Como

NODES - Roadshow Primavera - Spoke 2 - 19 Marzo 2025

On Wednesday 19 March 2025, the Spoke 2 stop of the NODES Spring Roadshow took place in the evocative setting of the Sant'Abbondio Cloister of Insubria University. A meeting that turned the spotlight on the most advanced innovative solutions for the sustainable textile sector, the focus of GRIP's Research Module 3 (RM3) and the industrial PoCs of Atelier Riforma, VEGEA and TOT within the Spoke 2 funding!

Innovation and sustainability: a winning combination

The day was introduced by the institutional greetings of Mauro Fasano of the Università degli Studi dell’Insubria, followed by an in-depth discussion on the NODES ecosystem and the industrial PoCs of Spoke 2, moderated by Nicole Mariotti together with the RM3 research experts: Gianluigi Broggini, Elena Rosini, Antonio Di Guardo, Marta Lualdi, Elena Maggi, Mauro Fasano.


Among the keynote speeches were:


🔹‘The industrial reality of polyester textile recycling’, presented by Maurizio Crippa (GR3N), who illustrated the opportunities offered by industrial recycling for the sustainable future of fashion.

🔹‘Atelier Riforma: Re4Circular and the Responsible Fashion Movement’, where Elena Ferrero told how fashion can become ethical and sustainable through an innovative and conscious approach.

🔹‘The importance of a paradigm shift in industrial culture’, a speech by Maurizio Moscatelli (Acquedotto Industriale), who highlighted the need for a profound rethink of industrial practices in a sustainable key.

A dynamic confrontation with institutions and companies

The afternoon continued with the interactive panel ‘How much do you know?’, moderated by Barbara Pozzo from the University of Insubria. The occasion saw experts and representatives of the sector, including Confindustria Varese, Confindustria Como and the Centro Tessile Cotoniero e Abbigliamento (Cotton and Apparel Textile Centre), dialogue with the participants on knowledge and perceptions concerning the sustainable textile sector.

To close the afternoon, the testimonies of the companies involved in the industrial PoCs of Spoke 2: Marco Valtolina of VEGEA and Chams Chmiel of TOT, who shared experiences and concrete solutions for the sustainable transition of textiles.

Networking and new synergies

The day ended with a convivial networking moment, a valuable opportunity to further stimulate dialogue between research and business, confirming the strategic importance of the NODES project for the future of the sustainable textile industry.

 

📌 Round GRIP is almost coming to an end but it continues its journey towards innovation!

This event also represented the seventh stop of Round GRIP - the Spoke 2 series of meetings for research.
