Round Grip 3rd stop - how did it go?

Spoke 2 - come è andata la tappa 3?

On 19 June 2024 in Turin, Spoke 2 launched a new challenge to explore the topic of Industrial Symbiosis by asking for help from experts from various disciplines and the narration of the experience of some participating companies.

Nicole Mariotti - 3rd Parties Project Manager of Spoke 2 - and Edoardo Braccio - Project Manager of Spoke 2 - kicked off the day with a brief overview of the NODES Ecosystem and the activities of Spoke 2, in particular the structure of the GRIP flagship project in which the RM6 research module is exploring precisely Industrial Symbiosis. Prof. Enrica Vesce of the Department of Management then introduced the merits and complexities of an industrial system based on symbiosis, which was followed by the presentation of the mock-up of the Industrial Symbiosis platform, the focus of the research module's activities, thanks also to the insights of Prof. Paolo Garza.

The day's programme unfolded with a rich succession of speeches: participants were able to discover in depth some of the most relevant and urgent issues of Industrial Symbiosis. A process that, over the last few years, is becoming one of the cornerstones of the Circular Economy, but which - at the same time - lacks sufficient appreciation within public discourse.

A major contribution to this day was provided by the continuous discussion fuelled by the interaction between the participants, who, thanks also to the use of an online questionnaire, generated discussion on a number of key issues: legislation, economic incentives, minimum environmental criteria, social acceptance and the practice of Life Cycle Assessment. Services, funding, barriers and other strategies to further develop Industrial Symbiosis. All these, and many other key words were effective in understanding what companies and others who live these processes every day expect.
