Smart Carbon Dioxide

Scheda del progetto
The aim of this innovation service is to study the elements necessary to realise a process that decreases the high CO2 and nitrogenous/phosphate waste productions of the biogas industry or industries with comparable emissions. The process is based on the cultivation of algae as an alternative for capturing CO2 whose waste/biomass is reused in the biogas production process. Research and laboratory analysis is aimed at understanding the behaviour of algae.

The challenge lies in developing an innovative solution for absorbing the CO2 produced by the Bioland company's biogas plant and redirecting it into the photosynthesis process conducted by microalgae.
An algal cultivation plant requires a plant investment, both in terms of installation and maintenance, that is much smaller than CO2 capture solutions using chemical-physical techniques. The proposed project aims to initiate a study to transform the entire CO2 absorption cycle into a true circular economy opportunity.
- Monetary savings will be achieved by reducing the amount of effluent to be treated to reduce nitrogen and phosphate compounds.
- From an environmental point of view, on the other hand, the CO2 produced will be trapped in a circuit in which it will be reused, in the form of biomass, to feed a new fermentation cycle.
