The LORAWINE project has the ambitious goal of accurately tracing the entire production and transformation chain of Piedmontese wine products. This is achieved through the implementation of an innovative integrated data collection system, distributed in an extremely widespread manner in the vineyards, to monitor the specific agro-climatic characteristics that influence agricultural operations and treatments. Furthermore, the project aims to integrate the analysis of correlations between the data collected in different phases of the process, up to bottling, with the intent of identifying possible factors favorable to the overall efficiency of agricultural companies. In-depth knowledge of the entire process will allow targeted and informed decisions to be made, reducing both the risks associated with environmental instability in the agricultural sector and the operating costs of the product, ensuring greater environmental sustainability.

The challenge
Document

The LORAWINE project, by monitoring the agro-climatic conditions in the different environments of the Piedmont region, aims to reduce the potential risk of causing damage to consumer health and the environment through a substantial reduction in the use of pesticides by anticipating the adversities and physiological needs of the plant by operating with preventive micro interventions. A conscious agronomic management allows winemakers to apply different specific strategies in the different cultivated plots depending on the microclimates present. The objective is to implement a widespread monitoring process through technological development in the Internet of Things (IoT), in order to address the challenges associated with changing environmental conditions.

Why is it innovative?
Document

The innovative aspect of the LORAWINE project lies in combining advanced IoT technologies, the traceability of the production process and the ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions, allowing to significantly improve efficiency and sustainability in the wine sector, enhancing and detailing data collection with a very high granularity in order to obtain extremely accurate forecasting models.

Impact on those who use it
Document

The LORAWINE project will have a positive impact on both wine producers, who will benefit from greater operational efficiency thanks to the availability of detailed and real-time data on their vineyards, and on consumers, who will be able to know the origin and production practices of the wine they are purchasing.
