Application of QR Code to a food labelling management system

The service aims to create an automatic QR-CODE generation system to be used in the field of food labeling, with the aim of conveying mandatory and optional information to the final consumer. Mandatory information is that which concerns:
- environmental labeling (Legislative Decree 116/2020, EU directives 851/2018 and 852/2018),
- food labeling compliant with EU Reg. 1169/2011,
- beverage labeling compliant with EU Reg. 787/2019.
Optional information is that of a commercial nature or related to informing or creating a link with the final consumer. The level of automation sought must allow:
- the generation of the QR-code compliant with the reference ISO,
- the traceability of the QR-code,
- maximum management flexibility,
- effectiveness for the user company and for the final consumer.

The aim of the project is to develop a “Smart” application, usable by food and beverage producers and capable of guaranteeing an increase in efficiency and competitiveness applicable to the entire agri-food system, with particular attention to smaller operators, less equipped with resources to allocate to digital automation and normally not inclined to invest in ICT.
The solution sought must ensure the generation and management of the QR-CODE with different information purposes:
- for all food and beverage labels: display environmental labelling information;
- for beverage labels: display all information that will become mandatory from 01/01/2024 and for which the QR-CODE tool is permitted as a substitute for the printed label;
- for food labels: make the information that must be placed on the labels easily accessible, integrating the information content with other non-mandatory information.
Overall, the solution obtained will allow, in economic terms, to have a significant impact on the company's turnover. Integrating the QR-CODE into the label printing management system opens the doors to an important market area and allows for a strong technological element on which to leverage to guarantee commercial strength.
