From the vineyard to human beings for an integrated and sustainable development of the territory

VITAE is a project developed by Weco, in collaboration with the University of Gastronomic Sciences, with the aim of promoting the integrated and sustainable development of the wine sector in the Langhe and Roero area. The initiative aims to introduce innovative processes, models and solutions, including digital ones, to address the socioeconomic challenges of the territory. VITAE includes industrial research actions, such as data analysis and the study of social responsibility practices in viticulture, and experimental development actions, such as the design of territorial solutions to improve ethical and quality work in the vineyards. Furthermore, it includes the creation of a digital platform to manage data and support services for the development of corporate sustainability processes (assessment, management & certification), as well as the design and testing of a consultancy model on corporate sustainability in the wine sector.

The challenge of VITAE is to increase the competitiveness of the local food system through policies for the sustainability of the wine supply chain also enabled by digitalization, in order to increase the awareness and skills of operators in the sector. VITAE aims to respond to the socio-environmental challenges of the secondary agro-industry, allowing the economic agents of the territory to acquire a growing role also in the change and acceleration of transformative processes.
Unlike existing solutions, VITAE does not limit itself to promoting services and features with a specific focus on environmental sustainability, but adopts a holistic approach that considers sustainability in all its dimensions, including and focusing more on social and governance aspects, which are usually poorly addressed and not explored in depth. This takes the form of a proposal that goes beyond the promotion of practical solutions to manage and reduce environmental impact, but integrates strategies to promote the social responsibility of wine companies, transforming the platform into a highly innovative tool for the reference market.
VITAE intends to orient the winemaking system of the Langhe and Roero area towards innovative processes, models and solutions, including digital-oriented ones, to strengthen the corporate culture in terms of sustainability, identified as a driver for the development of the supply chain and the territory, and to enhance the expression of the social responsibility of local economic actors.
