The project concerns the monitoring of flood events, and proposes two specific areas of work:

  • Direct Risk Identification (Landslides):
    • Mark landslide-prone areas for strategic installation of ground-based sensors (GNSS) targeted for infrastructure monitoring;
    • Improve temporal granularity of satellite information for more accurate assessment.
  • Indirect Risk Identification (Spread of Infectious Diseases):
    • Estimate the increased spread of insect-borne infectious diseases following flood events.

The challenge
Document

Being able to provide a nationwide preventive measure to strengthen the land monitoring system and identify potential natural disaster risk areas.

How it's innovative
Document

The technologies that will be studied to develop both use-cases are highly innovative and ready for a further validation phase leading to exploitation in different contexts. They are therefore configured as enabling technologies for innovative "data products."

Impact on users
Document

The project will contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge through the generation of potentially far-reaching algorithmic innovations; it will also enhance the development of advanced deep learning techniques for remote sensing. The broad range of topics will foster interdisciplinary research, allowing the convergence of ideas and approaches from different areas of study, joining weather event monitoring with areas such as logistics, engineering, healthcare and epidemiology.
