From research to entrepreneurial reality: Plant Flow Solutions, the spin-off that measures plant performance, is born
Plant Flow Solutions (PFS), a new entrepreneurial reality was born from a Proof of Concept developed within Spoke 2 of NODES - Green Technologies and Sustainable Industries, under the guidance of Prof. Claudio Lovisolo (DISAFA, Università di Torino).   The project was also able to continue its development thanks to the collaboration with the 2i3T incubator, moving from academic research to market innovation. The spin-off proposes a platform capable of automatically and continuously monitoring gas exchange between plant and atmosphere (CO₂ and H₂O), with an unprecedented level of precision and modularity. A technology designed to revolutionise the Agritech sector, but also applicable in industrial and urban contexts, up to carbon capture and air remediation from VOCs and pollutants.   Plant Flow Solutions is a virtuous example of technology transfer and sustainable innovation, perfectly in line with the objectives of NODES.   Get to know more

The VINO Flagship Project in the Spotlight at EGU 2025: Research and Innovation for Sustainable Viticulture
The session “Soil management practices and land degradation in vineyards”, held on 28–29 April during the European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2025 (EGU) in Vienna, featured active participation from researchers at the University of Pavia. Claudia Meisina chaired the session, guiding an international scientific dialogue on soil degradation and sustainable practices in viticulture.   The contributions presented stemmed from research activities carried out within the VINO flagship project, part of NODES – SPOKE 6 – Primary Agroindustry, and covered a broad range of topics. Massimiliano Bordoni, Valerio Vivaldi, and Claudia Meisina presented work on shallow landslide prediction models, hydrogeological characterisation, and vulnerability analysis on vineyard slopes. Fabio Dell’Acqua introduced an automated mapping approach for inter-row vineyard management using satellite imagery and Bézier curve analysis. Diego Ravazzolo discussed a surface runoff model applied to assess erosion in agricultural landscapes.   Among the on-site posters, Antonio Gambarani, Matteo Giganti, along with Bordoni, Vivaldi, and Meisina, showcased studies on the application of nature-based solutions, the quantification of soil degradation, and future land suitability for perennial crops. The event highlighted the quality and relevance of the outcomes generated by the VINO project, fostering an interdisciplinary exchange between geosciences, digital technologies, and sustainable farming practices. 🔗 Learn more about the session: https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU25/session/52887

NODES’ Tech Sharing Days: Two Days in Turin Dedicated to Innovation, Regional Development, and Businesses
Academic research and its impact on business development and the Northwest region will take center stage at the event, thanks to the Academic PoCs.   On May 27 and 28, 2025, the NODES’ Tech Sharing Days will take place at the Politecnico di Torino—an event entirely dedicated to sustainable innovation and technology transfer, where academic research meets the business world, creating new opportunities for the Northwest. Over the course of the two days, more than 60 Academic Proofs of Concept (PoCs) will be showcased, developed within the NODES – Nord Ovest Digitale e Sostenibile project and funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research through PNRR – NextGenerationEU resources. The projects—led by researchers from eight universities and ecosystem partners—span a wide range of sectors: from sustainable mobility to green technologies, from healthcare to tourism, as well as mountain innovation and agri-food. Their common goal: to transform applied research into concrete, market-ready solutions. Research teams will have access to a large exhibition area set up in the courtyard of the Politecnico, where they will display prototypes, materials, and results, engaging directly with investors, stakeholders, and businesses. The event will also feature thematic pitch sessions, where each PoC will be presented in a 5-minute pitch to a professional audience. Researchers will have the opportunity to present the outcomes of their PoCs through various pitch sessions and exhibition spaces located in the main courtyard. Attendees will be able to explore prototypes up close, engage with the researchers, and connect with entrepreneurs, investors, and stakeholders to foster potential future collaborations. The program also includes two strategic roundtables: On Tuesday, May 27, 2025: Innovation and Technology Transfer as a Driver of Business Growth On Wednesday, May 28, 2025: Connections Between Sustainability, Innovation, and Regional Development, with a focus on key sectors of the Northwest.   Organized by the NODES Ecosystem together with Politecnico di Torino, lead partner of the project, the Tech Sharing Days represent a crucial moment for exchange, openness, and collaboration. A unique opportunity to discover emerging innovations, foster synergies between research and business, and contribute to the sustainable development of the territory. The event will also feature informal networking moments, including light lunches and refreshments based on local products, highlighting the gastronomic excellence of the NODES Ecosystem. Narrative landscapes. Biella between language, history, aesthetics
On Friday 16 May 2025 and Saturday 17 May 2025, at Città Studi in Biella (corso G. Pella, 2 Biella), the conference will be held: "Narrative landscapes. The Biella area between language, history, aesthetics and media" promoted within the NODES - Digital and Sustainable North West project of the PNRR, in particular by Spoke 3 (Spoke 3 Tourism and Culture Industry) and aimed at enhancing a territory rich in potential such as that of Biella. The conference will explore landscape narratives in an interdisciplinary way and with a view to promoting an emblematic territory for the relationship between a heterogeneous natural environment and a complex cultural and economic history. Spoke 3 presents: Art Tuesdays 2025 - The Protection of Cultural Heritage
As part of the Doctoral Course in Law and Human Sciences, the Department of Law, Economics and Cultures (DiDEC) and the Department of Human Sciences and Innovation for the Territory (DiSUIT) of the University of Insubria, leader of Spoke 3, have organized in collaboration with the Research Center on the History of Contemporary Art (Crisac) of the University of Insubria a series of 4 meetings on the protection of cultural heritage entitled: "Art Tuesdays 2025". The conferences, sponsored by the Civic Museums of Como, will take place from April 29, 2025 to June 10, 2025 at the Pinacoteca Civica di Como, in via Armando Diaz 84. The Spoke 3 Tourism and Culture Industry aims at economic, social and territorial development through research and innovation actions in the tourism and culture industry. The cycle of events will offer the public and university students a reflection on the complexity and importance of art and its regulation in the legal field. The involvement of the Civic Museums of Como aims to improve educational processes, enrich the cultural life of citizens and create synergies aimed at supporting the economy of the cultural and tourism sector. A journey through the centuries to discover how humanity has protected – or sometimes neglected – its cultural heritage. This series of meetings explores the evolution of the concept of heritage, the strategies adopted for its conservation, and the contemporary challenges related to the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage. From ancient Rome, where the value of historical memory was already being discussed, to modern international conventions and digital technologies applied to conservation, emblematic cases and crucial moments that have marked the history of cultural protection will be analyzed. An opportunity to reflect on the importance of heritage as a common legacy and collective responsibility. The meetings are open to the public.
